Frequently Asked Questions

While I do not bill insurance directly, many clients with PPO or out-of-network benefits are eligible for partial reimbursement for therapy sessions. I provide a superbill—a detailed receipt with the necessary information—that you can submit to your insurance provider for reimbursement. In many cases, I can also submit electronic claims on your behalf to make the process easier.
Coverage and reimbursement rates vary depending on your specific plan and provider, so I recommend calling your insurance company to ask about your out-of-network mental health benefits. It can be helpful to ask about your deductible, reimbursement rate, and any session limits. I’m happy to assist you in navigating this process and answering any questions along the way.

I offer a free 15–30 minute phone consultation to discuss your needs, answer questions, and review fees and scheduling. After that, I charge a set fee per session. Payment is due at the time of service, and I accept all major credit cards, checks, or cash.
If you ever have questions about payment or need to talk through options, I’m happy to discuss that with you.

In our first session, we’ll explore the reasons you’re seeking therapy and begin to get to know one another. I’ll ask about your background, current concerns, and hopes for therapy. From there, we’ll begin identifying key areas to focus on and determine a plan moving forward.
Whether we work together short-term or take a more open-ended approach, the pace and goals of therapy will be shaped by your needs.

For younger children, the initial session is typically with the parent(s) or caregiver(s) only. This allows you to share your concerns and your child’s history in detail. We’ll talk about developmental background, current challenges, and what you’re hoping for from therapy.
In follow-up sessions, I’ll begin meeting with your child—usually starting with a brief check-in with you both, followed by individual time with your child. I’ll check in at the end of each session to share observations and next steps.
For adolescents, the first session may include both the teen and their parent(s), depending on the presenting issue. We’ll decide the best structure together during the initial consultation.

As an AMFT, I do not prescribe medication. However, if we decide together that a medication evaluation may be helpful, I can refer you to a trusted psychiatrist or medical provider. With your consent, I’m happy to coordinate care with any healthcare professionals you’re working with.
